22 Days is a Lifetime

I wrote my father's obituary and Erik proofed it, so an English major may be of some use at times. All sorts of new rules about what newspapers print and what they charge for in the obit. column. The Burlington Hawkeye changed it quite a bit, certainly didn't improve it. I tried in a few sentences to capture a life. I thought I would relate some of the stories from our family that tell an American story.

Grant

"My family is American, and has been for generations, in all its branches, direct and collateral." The Autobiography of General Ulysses S. Grant

So how did our family end up in Smithshire? Our family's history is tied to Western Illinois. In the 1830's with Native Americans pushed out West of the Mississippi farmers came and towns began. Most of my ancestral families were in Warren County some in Schuyler County at this time.

Actually everyone in my family, and I have been tracing them in Ancestry.com many branches back to the 1600's, have always farmed for a living at sometime in their lives.
