People are outraged, doesn't bother me

by:Erik Davis

Do you remember Linda Ronstadt? She worked with Nelson Riddle on a series of CDs (my own Steve would call them albums) with songs from the big band era. I do, my Grandfather used to bore me with tapes of her as we rode around in his pick up. I was strapped in my car seat, so what could I do.

I'm not supposed to like the old music at my age. but I do. So maybe I was brain washed like the Manchurian Candidate. You never know what you'll learn from Grandfathers. I have a whole play list on my iPod of music my grandfather would love. I have a few play lists he would rather I not play in the pick up.

Any who, Linda Ronstadt dedicated a song to Michael Moore while performing in Las Vegas at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino.  People were outraged. This week Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called some of his political opposition “girly men”.  People were outraged.

Well I got news for you; who cares!?  Nobody really cares.  Its just like what Bill Maher said on Larry King Live last night, this is just "fake outrage" for political reasons.  Which is totally true.

Both sides do it.  Just like when John Kerry threw medal or ribbons or were they his or someone else's…who cares? He threw them in the 1960’s.  That was twenty years before I was born.  Does anyone really think that whether he threw medals or ribbons or his medals or someone  else's medals have any effect on who he is today, or what he stands for.

The same thing can be said  about President George W Bush.  Does it really matter what  kind of grades he got at Yale.  I mean I didn't’t always get the best grades in High School but I’m still a good guy.  None of this matters so I don’t think that people should make such a big deal out of it; there are more important things to focus on.

More Free Stuff For College Students

by:Erik Davis

Duke University has decided to give each of its incoming students an iPod. Each iPod will come with a freshman orientation program and an academic calendar. The idea is that the iPods can be used to download lectures and store recorded books. Of course the iPods can also be used to store downloaded music. Is it just me or is the world starting to look better and better. If I was going to Duke, not only would I have a free subscription to Napster but i would also have a free iPod.

"Good" Cholesterol

by:Erik Davis

First of all why can't they ever make up their minds. Oh you know who I am talking about the people who say to you that eggs are bad for you and then turn around and run commercials where eggs are good for you from your head down to your legs. I mean they need to make up their minds. Eggs are good for you but only if you eat them with out frying them. But the problem with that is then they taste horrible. Whatever they decide I just hope they make up their minds and stick to it. Not that I will listen, because I am going to eat eggs whether they say that they are good for me or not. But enough about eggs what about cholesterol. It is even more confusing then eggs. As far as I know cholesterol is bad for you except when its good for you then we just call it good cholesterol Is there a difference if I look at two pieces of cholesterol. Will I immediately know which one is bad and which one is good. They say that good cholesterol. can prevent dementia in women. Well that seems important and good but how do we know which cholesterol is good and which is bad. If you have anymore information about how to tell the difference between a chunk of good cholesterol. and bad cholesterol.

35th Anniversary of the Moon Landing

by: Erik Davis

35 years ago today Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped off the ladder of the lunar lander and walked on the moon. Everyone in the nation, and in fact the world, was energized and excited by this. My own Steve remembers it well he was in between his sophomore and junior year at Roseville High School. He had always been excited by the idea of space exploration and had memorized the names of all the astronauts in the Mercury and Gemini programs.

Recently I found a folder in our garage with old newspaper clippings of rocket launches, Cape Kennedy post cards, and other such stuff. It was done for a school project. In 1969 "the Steve" believed we would have been to Mars before the end of the 20th Century. He was a Star Trek fan, so ... no real basis in reality.

Free Music Downloading For College Students

by: Erik Davis

Many universities around the country are making deals with Napster allowing the students to download music for free. This is sure to make many college students, including myself, very happy. This will cut down on one of the problems colleges face today, illegal file sharing. This will provide students with a legal way to get music. Students will download music whether it is legal or not, so it is good that colleges and universities are finally recognizing this and making it legal.

The other news in music is that iPod is pushing revenues for Apple Computer. The music store run by Apple for iTunes is by far the leader in sales of on line music. Both iPod and iTunes work with Windows and Macintosh computers. Some analysts believe iPod may even increase Macintosh's market share from it's paltry status versus Windows.

Lance Armstrong Takes the Lead, Again

by: Erik Davis

Lots of news about people with the last name of Armstrong today.. Lance Armstrong has done it again. He has taken the lead in the Tour de France. Thomas Voeckler and Lance Armstrong have been battling for the lead for quite some time, and today Armstrong surged past Voeckler to take the lead. I don't know about you but this is getting redundant if he wins again I think we should ask him to retire so that some one else can have a chance. This guy is like the energizer bunny...

In another sports story, Todd Hamilton won the British Open. Todd Hamilton is from Oquawka IL. He has been a pro for some time; this is his best year at the ancient age of 38. My own Steve is so old he was the coach for a little league team that played against Todd Hamilton. When he coached the Raritan Little League they won second place in the league tournament losing to Oquawka for whom Hamilton was the star pitcher.
