Piddlin’ away the Crisis/Opportunity
The position of eternal “No” is wearing thin. HMO’s didn’t manage care or costs; average middle class people know how precarious it is to lose a job and health insurance.
Most of us are scared the reform bill won’t reform health care. It is the lives and futures of our children who will be at risk. The compromise bill of Democrats and Olympia will allow passage. President Obama will sell it, and health reform will become a political victory. All that ranting and raving will be lost to history.
Now is the time to push harder for energy independence, financial regulation, and ending contractor corruption. Our energy use is a national security threat, an environmental threat, and a drag on our economy. Are we building an energy grid, high-speed rail links, nuclear and solar generation plants? Are we cleaning up the financial corruption and corporate thuggery? If President Obama will continue to speak authentically a majority will stay with this administration as the fringe and power brokers spew empty slogans. This is no time to piddle it all away.
